April 2026 marks the first real trip Jake and I took out of town without the kids! He was going to Florida with Sarah's company, and they invited me to be their plus one. I was able to work from our hotel room a few days we were there, and I was also able to relax to the max! Jake had a free afternoon and went with his coworker, Cass, deep sea fishing. He caught several fish! Cass got the fish filleted and cooked and it was remarkable! It was white grunt, and very tasty. Sarah won an award and we whooped loud and proud for her. We ate well and danced and had a great time.
Jake took the kids out to see the new Mario movie. They all got big sodas and treats.
We had a simple Easter. We did Easter egg hunts over and over again. It was so fun! Wade keeps seeing the eggs in the laundry room and asks if we can find them again.
Gwen was selected to join a multi school band and be directed by several junior high teachers. She loved it so much! She worked really hard to practice and performed at the Mesa Arts Center. It was incredible! Side note, we went to Poston for a school tour and the principal said "it's incredible to see them go from practicing two times a week in school to practicing daily at school." He said that by spring break of 2027, Gwen will have spent more time in band in 7th grade than in her entire band life as a 4th, 5th, and 6th grader combined!
I ran in Pat's Run at ASU. I've heard about this race since I was in high school, but didn't know much about it. I learned a lot about Pat Tillman, and the race was well done. It was the hottest and hardest race I've done so far. It was on the street the entire time and there was no shade at all. My corral didn't start until close to 8 am and by then there were no clouds left in the sky. Woof! Next year I'll jump up in the corrals or just submit proof of time to get in an earlier corral. I rode to the race with Jon and Seth Gillespie and Jake picked me up in his buddy's Corvette. Carlos and Jake did a car swap so Carlos could take our Prius to Wickenburg. Jake, therefore, picked me up in the corvette and that drive home was so fun. It was very fume-y though, and the ten minute ride was plenty for me.
Grandma Julia Uchytil turned 94!!! The family got together and celebrated her with music and treats. We listened to fun facts about her life.
Spring is the busiest season in our home. We have soccer practice, basketball practice, swim, piano, recitals, games, and more. We (I) decided next spring we will not do any extra sports. On top of school tests, this time of year is just too rushed and none of us thrive like that. That said, we do enjoy it all. It's busy, but we love supporting one kid at soccer game, the next at her ball game, hitting a dance recital and getting home later than usual.
