August! We got back into the swing of school schedules, piano lessons, clarinet, and new viola lessons! I worked at a few different offices as a temp, and also went around dropping off resumes at offices close to me. This worked out well and I found an office I really like. It's been great. I'm only a few minutes away from home, and I've liked the doctors, hygienists, and assistants, and the patients have been great as well!
Daniel came back from Germany for a two week visit. We had a pretty simple schedule with him, nothing too major planned. He mostly wanted to shop and see his old friends.
Jake played in a basketball tournament in the white mountains. He really thought they'd get 1st, but they got out pretty quick. He took the girls up with him and Wade and I stayed home.
The Binghams joined us for a river trip. We didn't lose any keys this year! We had great snacks. My tubes were slowly losing air the entire time, and Troy and I were each on one. By the end, he and I were sinking and he was saying the most random things that was making me laugh so hard. I kept saying he had the best time because he didn't do a single thing despite being by the food. Shout out to Caroline for literally making sandwiches while floating and managing my two kids on her paddle board hahah! Also, it was such a nice day but we all got weird spicy sunburns. The burns hit the days after even though we constantly applied sunblock. The UV index was rough that day.
We celebrated Morgan's birthday! He and the kids came over to eat dinner and cake. We went around the table and said the things we love most about Morgan. It was funny and sweet.
How could I forget this one!? I went to the hospital. I'd first experienced some intense abdominal pain at the end of July. I woke up to use the restroom, and when I got into the bathroom I had the most painful stomach cramps. I immediately doubled over. I couldn't get a breath. I went and woke Jake up and told him I needed to go to an urgent care, but we didn't have insurance so I was trying to manage the pain like I do with labor--meditation and breathing. After an hour or so, the pain decreased and I was able to fall back asleep within the following hour. When I woke up I told Jake I was certain my appendix had burst but chalked it up to gas even though I KNEW that wasn't my problem.
Fast forward two weeks, I was resting after school pick up at home. I hadn't had any issues at symptoms but I got up from my bed where Gwen and I were lazing, and the pain was back and more ferocious. Truly, I couldn't get comfortable. I couldn't relieve the pain with any techniques. I called the urgent cares around the valley asking if they could do ultrasounds and they all said I've have to go to the hospital for that. Jake and I were debating, and ultimately decided to go straight to the hospital because I knew with the pain I was feeling I was going to need surgery.
Jake dropped me off at the hospital to go handle the kids. We had to take Wade with us on the way to the emergency room because he had just woken up from a nap and doesn't like to be without Jake and I right after waking up (cranky sweetheart problems). I told Jake I'd handle things on my ends, expecting to be there for a while. I called my mom and told her to be on alert for coming down to town if I did get surgery.
Checking in was funny. I am a people person and don't want to be inconvenient so explaining my symptoms to the intake nurses was funny. They asked for a pain scale. I told them "I actually enjoy having babies, and would rate that maybe a 7-8 when the baby is coming. This is a 10". hahahaha! But I was still smiling and cracking jokes. They got me into a room really quickly and I was surprised by that. I was also pleasantly surprised that Jake came back to be with me! He had called Morgan after making dinner, and he came to do bedtime and stay with our kids until we got home around 2:00am.
Right around shift change I got a big (for me) dose of morphine and I hated that with a passion. I hate feeling not normal, and I was so dizzy and woozy. I got an ultrasound and the doctor who read it didn't find anything suspicious. I'm thankful Jake was there because in the past I've had a hard time advocating for myself, but it wasn't hard this time. Also, my doctor was great. He saw the results and said he wanted a CT. After the CT he came to tell us they found a fist sized cyst on my left ovary, and tons of fluid which indicated to them that there was another cyst that likely ruptured. I brought up the previous pain I'd had at the end of July and he confirmed a cyst rupture was likely. They ended up sending us home with follow up orders for my obgyn.
I went to the follow up and my doctor immediately said, "I'm surprised they didn't take this out! We need to schedule surgery right away." I was like... well, I'm not in pain anymore. Should I wait? And then we discussed those options. So here's my plan. I'm waiting a few more weeks for a 2nd ultrasound at my provider's office. If my cyst is shrinking, we leave it alone. If it's bigger, we do surgery. If it's the same, we just wait.
It stresses me out, no joke. My doctor told me not to lift anything more than 10 pounds. I said, "My two year old is way heavier than that, and I lift at the gym every day. . ." ultimately she just said to listen to my body. Stop when I'm concerned. I've heeded that. Surgery stresses me out! That scares me! But here we are. 0/5 stars for cysts. 5/5 for my hospital experience. The people watching was stellar. The wait times were nasty, but it was great.
